GENERAL INFORMATION

COLLEGE TERMS
Commencement of classes on 15th June.

The academic year comprises of two terms (subject to alteration). Other details of the College Terms will be notified later as soon as the relevant information is received from Goa University.

LIBRARY
College has a well equipped library consisting of books, periodicals, reference books, etc. in the subjects in which the college specializes. Substantial additions are made every year.

The students are encouraged to make full use of the library facilities subject to the rules which govern the smooth functioning of the library and these rules are displayed in the college library.

U.G.C. Book Bank
The College Library has the above mentioned scheme of lending out the required set of text books to poor and needy students for the academic year. Students desirous of getting the benefit of the above scheme should apply to the Principal immediately after the admission in prescribed form available in the Library. Section of the Students is left to the discretion of Principal and Librarian.

Incentive schemes
Library allows additional borrowing of books by meritorious students from all the classes. Library organizers library orientation week during the month of July every year. A library week is celebrated during December, by holding various competition based on library activities. The best student reader award is given to a T.Y.B.Com. student based on his/her year's overall performance in college.

N.C.C (National Cadet Corps)
The College has the N.C.C. (Infantry Wing) unit under the guidance of qualified professor. Students are encouraged to join the unit for developing their personality. All necessary facilities in this connection are provided to the N.C.C. Cadets. This unit is open to all students who enroll in this college.

N.S.S. (National Services Scheme)
The objective of the N.S.S. is to develop national consciousness and social responsibility in University Students. The unit undertakes adult literacy classes, natural labour camps, care of the sick in the hospitals and such other service to the nation. A member of the teaching staff appointed by the Principal will be in charge of all activities undertaken under this organization.

Past Student Association:
The Past Students Association executive committee meeting was held on 20th July 2003, with the sole aim of building and developing stronger ties between the past and present students. Many of our students have made a name for themselves and have proved to be real life heroes - be it in commercial world, creative world or the of politics. Another such meeting was held at the fag end of the academic year, to draw up a concrete course of action for this unit.

Membership for past students
A past student of the college who has joined any special/advance course of study related to Commerce and Economics can become a member of the library for one year by applying to the Principal for the special facility and by depositing Rs. 500/-. The application has to produce with his/her application the necessary certificate of admission to the course.

It is entirely left to the discretion of the Principal whether to grant the membership or not and the membership may be discontinued by the Principal without assigning any reason at any time in the year.

GYMKHANA
The activities of the Gymkhana are managed by a committee of representatives of students and Vice Principal/Senior Staff Member nominated by the Principal Facilities of various outdoor and indoor games such as Cricket, Volleyball, Badminton, Hockey, Table Tennis, Chess, Carrom etc. are provided.

Gymkhana organizes coaching, training, and games to participate in intercollegiate sports events. Selection are based on attendance, practice sessions, coaching camps and friendly matches. Coaching is given to members in each event who are selected in intercollegiate level.

Other activities
Besides the above mentioned activities the college provide a platform for the following interests:

1. The Students' Council is a recommendatory Body formed every year comprising of members elected by voting. The Principal however has the right to nominate students to the same. Student's Council is responsible to the Principal for the conduct of various co-curricular activities under the Student's Council.

2. Tour & Excursions: organized whenever possible to introduce the students to the Cultural and Historical aspects of the country.

3. Wall papers and Annual Magazine; provide a channel to the literacy talents of the students.

4. Annual Social Gathering: Conducted every year for channelising talents of the students in the field of acting, singing, music etc.

IDENTITY CARD
Every students must obtain from the college office a student's Identity Card. Application for this will have to be accompanied by the fee-receipt and two copies of the student's photograph when notified. Renewal of Identity Cards in the case of the old students will be done on submission of the previous identity card during college hours. The students have to produce the Identity Card on demand during the College/University examinations. The Identity Card shall be returned to the college office without fail when the students leave the college.

PARENT - TEACHER ASSOCIATION
The Parent - Teacher Association of S.S. Dempo College of Commerce & Economics was formed on 18th December, 2002. This association provides a platform to the parents to interact with the teachers on a regular basis in the interest of their wards. It also provides the forum to build strong rapport in order to bring about the overall development of the students both academically and non-academically.

Regular meetings of P.T.A. are held. The P.T.A. members attend various functions organised by the college and also take keen interest in the affairs of the college and the prospects of their wards.
